As part of the drive to push food and dining across the pub estate, Young's took some bold steps in managing the food and dining experience in it's pubs. With highly trained chefs, new menus and offerings appearing across the estate, food standards had increased considerably.
Marketing that clearly and loudly announced that a change taken place, was the objective. The poster copy, that I created (aimed at the male customer, being the predominant Pint drinker) is attention grabbing, but light hearted: "Bartender, Delicious, Deep Filled, Loving Prepared Pie And A Pint Please".
A campaign that was rolled out at key sites across London, the tone of the poster needed to be warm and welcoming, and fit well inside a stylish pub environment. With so much food and drink stock photography being used by the competitors, large photographic images of food and drink are common place in the sector. Traditional illustrations provide us with more exclusivity and unique offering. They also adds to the light hearted message and warmth of the campaign.
The illustrations were created by scanning initial drawings into the computer and digitally painted using a drawing tablet. They were then refined in Abobe Photoshop, resulting in more consistency of colour and depth.
I really enjoyed this job, because it gave an opportunity to paint and do some traditional illustration work, which doesn't happen very often.
